Eleven-year-old Matthew Lee practices his handstands as his therapist holds onto him.
“Push,” she urges him, trying to make the boy with neurological disorders straighten his arms to build upper body strength. But like the headstand and somersaults before that, the handstands prove to be a challenge. She helps him down, attempting to show him how to do it on the ground. He runs off in the opposite direction while she calls his name...
Matthew is one of the first clients of a new company called A Big Blast that incorporates occupational therapy with gymnastics for kids.
Instead of a clinical office setting, the idea behind Big Blast is to keep kids entertained while receiving the treatment they need.
